Disable auto refresh using the iPad Facebook app

Can somebody help me, when using Facebook app (iPad 4) when in newsfeed how can I stop it refreshing every minute or so, it is very annoying when I am halfway through reading something and it refreshes back to the top of the page, even when watching video files it will refresh back to the top, I would like to disable this feature and want to be able to manually refresh, it's very frustrating and really turns me off using Facebook at all, it seems to be worse now with iOS 7

Try a reset of your iPad and see if this fixes your issue.
Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you may see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start.
