Cases vs Shells how do you determine which is which?

"Shell" is not a "Case" ; cases must cover the screen ergo a shell covers the back. A shell can upgrade to a case with the addition of a smart cover.
Am I picking tares from the wheat or does anyone else see it that way.

I don't disagree at all, but you will never get everyone to use these terms so the issue is moot.

A shell will be a hard plastic cover over the back the offers no give or protection to the screen. A case will usually be plastic or leather and cover both front and back

I agree with this, but don't expect the world to conform. The generic definition of "shell" doesn't rule out something that wraps all the way around (like an eggshell or peanut shell, or the shell of candies like M&Ms).

If you're buying a shell or case and can't tell the difference, don't buy it, lol.

If you're trying to convert the world on language use, don't bother, lol.
