Is there a way to send a pure a/v signal out from iPad? In other words, use the iPad as a source camera without going through FaceTime or a streaming app?

Thanks

Hi Bobbytee - welcome to the forum! :) Not sure which iPad you own, but I have an iPad 2 - if I understand your question, then my HDMI adapter to the HDTV would allow both audio & video output of the device's screen; thereby just activating the Camera app (and picking front or rear camera) would allow the output you described. Now there are other video adapters that can be used. Finally, if you have an Apple TV, wireless 'mirroring' of the iPad is possible. If these suggestions do not answer your question, please post back - good luck!

Thanks, giradman. I did think of the HDMI adaptor method, but if I understand correctly, that will output the iPad screen, not strictly the camera, correct? Which I believe means that even if I open the camera itself on screen, I will still see the native camera tools (front/rear icon, etc.) and record button in the video, which is not what I'm looking to do ideally. My goal is to use the iPad a a source, just like any other video camera, sending just the audio and video signals out so I can use it as a raw feed. So far I have not found a way to do that beyond the method you describe.

Hi again - you are right, i.e. when the Camera app is activated, the controls will be visible and once you turn on the camera, what is on the iPad's screen will be sent to the TV/monitor - sounds like you want the AV signal to be sent but not its output seen on the screen of the iPad - correct? If so, I don't believe that the stock iPad can perform that action - hopefully some of our more AV oriented members will come along or those w/ 'jailbroken' iPads that might accomplish your desired goals? Dave :)

What about a web cam app? It sends the audio/video via wifi, and can be viewed much like a webcam via a browser or third party app depending on what you are watching on.

I've actually used multiple iPhones as wireless cameras into my Mac via wifi, using Camtwist and the associated software for each webcam app. Works well for multi-cam webcasts. 3 apps that work like this are:
IP Cam by Senstic
Mobiola WebCamera
PocketCam by Senstic
IWebcamera by drahtwerk
