Apple update crashed me!

When I got home today and opened up the Air to play, it said there was an Apple update (wirelessly connected to my home PC network). I clicked OK and I got a status bar for a few minutes- then when it got to the end, the screen was stuck on the Apple logo symbol and gray status bar under it. It won't go away, it won't turn off- just stuck there- for more than 2 hours now.

This is my first and only Apple product, so maybe I just don't know what to do..................

Anybody help?
