than wading through the App store, with its single-level of category organization?
    Here, perhaps:
iPhone App Reviews Sorted by Editor's Rating | Macworld
Subcategories, sorting options, reviews, and links to iTunes to buy.

I'm with the previous poster. Appshopper has been great! I prefer it over iTunes for apps by a mile.

Appshopper is great. I have a RSS feed from them that shows the free apps or apps that have recently dropped to free. I check it out once day and download any free apps that are interesting. 4phun told me about this on the 3g support thread. I had 50 apps downloaded before I received my iPad :)

appshopper is amazing cause they also list apps by recent price changes, which include free apps. If you go visit them every couple of days, you can download a bunch of free or really cheap apps, although most of them suck :(
