YouTube problems (solved?)

Posted for the benefit of anyone searching for a similar issue…

For a couple of weeks, the YouTube app would not play videos. I tried deleting YT, rebooting, and reinstalling, which worked once for about an hour before failing. Then a YT update would crash either immediately or trying to load video. Videos played fine at youtube.com in Safari.

Today, I updated iPadOS from 18.0.1 to 18.1. On a whim, I reinstalled YT. It works again. If it fails again, I’ll report it here.

I watch YouTube every day and never had any problems with the app.

I must admit, I have the app but don’t use it. I watch YouTube.com using the Brave browser which has the benefit of removing ALL advertising.

The app worked well for me for years, then something broke. I suspect it was iPadOS 18.0.1.
