WiFi issue with I-Pad2

Good Evening folks! Hey have any of you had an issue with WiFi signal, or reception? Let me give you two examples. I take the train into Boston every day, and the week i got my new shiny I-Pad2 i was showing it to my friend and well his Ipad found the trains WiFi with no problem and my wonderful new I-Pad 2 could not? and then mutiple time since then the connection is not that good. The the second example is when my youngest child in nappin in the car, one of us sits out with them. Our Ipad gets our WiFi with no issues and is pretty fast... the lovely NEW Ipad2 is iffy at best. what gives? anyone got any great advice?

I did experience some wifi difficulties at home. My wireless router kept resetting. I *think* that I solved the problem by updating the firmware on my router (D-Link DIR-655). So far so good.

The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-

Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!!
Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

I have some issues with the WIFI on my Ipad 2 63gb/3g, it seems to have poor reception which varies wildly with no change in any other variable. Also on a speedtest, you can see lots of jagged graph and a drop off in sustained data transfer with time.

side by side with my macbook air, the air gets 56+mb/s on my N wireless network (Airport Extreme, feeding from a fast cable connection), the iPad peaks out between 2mb and 12mb/s on the same network, same distance same location etc.... I think the wireless drivers need some attention.

I tried the old trick of turning off the autobrightness and it improves a little but still slow.

Would appreciate others experience and ideas please.

"This has resolved many issues and worth a try.

- Sometimes after you perform a upgrade from say iOS 3. to iOS 4.2 *the iPad or iPhone wifi or 3G speeds *may be slow.*
- This is an easy fix which does work. Please do the following:
-*
1. Go to Settings->General->Reset
2. Then select "Reset Network Settings" (this will not erase ur devices content, music, videos, email, etc. It will only erase any WiFi networks you have defined).
3. Once your device completes the action and gives you the normal home screen or Passcode screen, go ahead and power your device down and once you are sure the device is fully powered down wait an additional 60sec to allow internal components to fully discharge.
4. After the 60sec is up, power on your device again and re-add any encrypted WiFi networks you had defined.
5. Enjoy the "back to normal" WiFi and 3G speeds like you had prior to the OS upgrade.*

Apple needs to address this issue and they need to do it NOW. Simply inexcusable. I even went to an apple and asked an employee about it and all they could say was they've never heard of such a thing, must be my network etc. WRONG. It's the damn iPad. Fix it apple. This is getting old really quick.

Ya know... After a few more days of needing to reboot the WiFi to get it to sign on line... Even thugh it is says i "am on line" but i get NO reception i am agreeing with iRockSteady!!!! They need to fix this... The i pad 1 is better when it comes to WiFi connection. BUT so far that is my only complaint.

Mine started when I upgraded to 4.3.1 and then let the battery drain completely to calibrate the battery. My little yellow lights ( data is moving) on my router flash a few times when I first wake my iPad then just stop. The only thing that works is turn wifi off, then back on. I've forgotten the network, reset the device, done a total restore, etc. Nothing has worked.

Mine started when I upgraded to 4.3.1 and then let the battery drain completely to calibrate the battery. Idk what apple is up to but I haven't heard anything at all about them fixing this. Pretty annoying. I hate having multiple devices with strong signals while my iPad 2 is struggling... Not cool. Like I said earlier, maybe they ignored the strength of the wifi card in this to promote getting a 3G model... This is my ONLY complaint. I love everything else.

I downloaded 4.3.2 yesterday, the WiFi is better, but not what it should be.

Mine is no better or worse after the update, but this issue needs to be fixed. It's funny when my $149 kindle never drops it's signal but my $800 iPad does frequently. Actually it's not funny...

Apple just released iOS 4.3.2 that has a number of improvements and corrections. First, get the latest update installed. Then go thru some of the other steps recommended above as appropriate. My main point was to always get the latest update installed.
