where do Archived messages go can they new retrieved?

where do messages go. i try to delete them but they get archived instead? any ideas.

Oh, and if I may add, please try to do a search first before making a post ... we have two excellent search functions, the forum one and the Google search bar, both of which are up there in the upper right side of every forum page.
