My initial goal was to quickly get some adequately entertaining video to keep me amused on airplanes and such without spending a ton of money on a per-hour basis. I downloaded a season of Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (well under a buck an hour, whee!) and two movies (The Eagle Has Landed, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). I chose the movies because I've seen them and they are okay, plus they were inexpensive! A cheapskate, aren't I? :)

My movie collection is 99% Divx or AVI format. Can't imagine convert all of them if iPad will not support those formats.
Air video allows you to stream any format movies to ipad via wifi or Bluetooth windows or mac support. Try it free trial apple store

I don't download movies to my iPad but if I did, the first would be "Brazil," the greatest science fiction/fantasy film of all time.

Spaceballs, The Man Who Wasn't There, and Ammadeus. Not the most recent list, I know.
