We've had over 6" of rain since 3 AM today and another storm is just starting. The streets are flooded along with many houses. I haven't seen this much rain in the last 6 years combined. We are under flood and flash flood warnings and a tornado warning right now and the rain just kicked back into high gear.

Wow....that doesn't sound good at all! All those poor people with flooded houses......just awful!

I hope it gets better there and the tornado doesn't eventuate! Stay safe!!

Oh dear that doesn't sound good. It looks like it's going to be okay here. Off to Sherborne castle fair today. Should be good.

A bit worrying z to say the least. Take care and hoping it does not get worse for you.

Well the town survived the night, and it is calm now with slight sprinkles and distant thunder, but there is a new flash flood warning in effect until 7:AM Tuesday (tomorrow). Well the California desert doesn't look so bad now

Thanks everyone! If it gets as bad as yesterday may have to head south a couple of hours away to get away from it.

Edit: it is now pouring outside, can not see the other side of the street. Time to fire up the ATV and enjoy some movies.

Be careful, Out here hail is one of the warning signs for a super severe storm or tornado

Thank you!

Hail isn't a warning sign for a storm or tornado in my region. Thankfully we don't have tornados here.

The whole thing only lasted for about 45 minutes, and then it was over. But we heard the siren of our fire brigade afterwards. I suppose a tree again, or flooded cellars.

I'm sorry it's raining in Paradise, Johanna. It's probably magical rain though isn't it? [emoji56][emoji170]

It was May rain. We have a saying: Mairegen bringt Segen (May rain brings blessings.) in English, it would be: Rain in May promises much hay. - So it must be magical. ;-)

My parents always said that I was outside too often when it rained in May, because I'm a tall woman. :D

Hey, z, I sure hope you don't live in the hills, or near twisting, winding roads. Anything that blocks the path of water coming down that hard can cause a big problem. Do you know if where you live has those side drains under the streets like they do in San Fransico
when the main drains get full they get enough pressure that smaller ones open up so the drain system actually looks like a tree branching out into smaller and smaller branches as it get closer and closer to the ocean?
I watched a documentary on it and it was actually compared to our own veins and blood pressure!

Very similiar!

It turns out, after doing some exploring, that only the one main street through the center of town has drains and only along about a half mile of that street has any. Craziest thing I've seen this summer.

No, i am at a high (relative to the rest of town) point, I have about 10' on the low areas. That isn't much of a buffer, but it is something:)

In Southern California when it did rain it did exactly that, I used to see it gushing up to a foot straight up out of the drain system because it necked down too fast and all the upstream drainage would flood back out into the streets, pretty scary.

Today was a perfect day. I went to a little deli and was wonderfully comfortable sitting in the shade by a stream having lunch. 80 degrees and sunny.
