Warner Bros has released in the App Store the Warner Archive Instant Netflix-style streaming movie app to the iPad, giving iPad users access to its 80-year archive of classic movies. The collection has more than 500 movies and television programs that can be accessed for $9.99 per month.

The app also comes with a free two-week trial and includes closed captioning. If 10$ per month seems like a big price to pay, provided that it’s by 2$ more expensive than a Netflix subscription, you can take the two-week trial to see some old movies in high quality and completely free. After that, you can decide if this service is for you or not. The app description goes like this in the App Store:

Warner Archive Instant features rare and hard-to-find classic films, TV movies and shows, anytime, anywhere. Many available in 1080p HD! Use this free app as part of your Warner Archive Instant membership to watch classics, cult favorites, midnight movies, musicals, TV series favorites as well as one-season wonders and mini-series from legendary studios like Warner Bros., MGM, RKO, Allied Artists, and more. Many films and TV shows unavailable anywhere else!

Speaking of the launch of the new app, George Feltenstein, senior vice president of theatrical catalog marketing at Warner Bros. Digital Distribution said the following:

Warner Archive Instant appeals to a whole new group of fans who are united by their passion for rare and hard-to-find movies and TV shows. It’s a category of consumers that transcends traditional demographic segmentation, crossing age, gender and more

The app includes titles from MGM, RKO, New Line, Monogram, Allied Artists and Lorimar, among others. Sample titles include “The Loved One,†“Bells Are Ringing,†“The Long, Long Trailer,†“Ziegfeld Follies,†“Dangerous Money†and “The Falcon’s Brotherâ€. Lovers of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall are invited to try out the Warner Archive Instant app by following the download link from iTunes.

Sorry but this is too expensive for what you get. Most of these flicks can probably be had via disc through Netflix or where ever else and you'd also get all of the other content too. I don't get the value here at all?

Agree. $10 is way too much for 500 titles. I probably own most of them anyway.
