Volume buttons when pressed come up as headphones

When I press the volume buttons the message comes up as headphones; I cannot get it back to ordinary volume.
Any advice?

I'm assuming you don't have your headphones plugged in?

If so, then it's possible some debris has lodged in the headphone plug causing the iPad to think the headphones are still plugged in. You can give the hole a blow to hopefully dislodge any debris. Be careful not to stick anything sharp in there that could do damage.

If that does not help, you can also try the usual fixes - restart, reset, etc.
