Sound through earphones only no sound through speakers

The sound has suddenly stopped working and the volume sliders have disappeared


It works and the sliders are there if I plug in the earphones. The mute button doesn't make any difference

I have tried rebooting etc and nothing

There is a micro switch in the headphone socket that is sticking. Repeatedly inserting the headphone jack and removing it might free it up.

Tried but doesnt seem to make a difference

You could try getting a vacuum cleaner on the socket for a couple of minutes. That has worked on misbehaving ports before.
