According to a report on Ars Technica today, it looks extremely likely that Apple employees are using iPad 3s, possibly even ones that are running iOS 6, to surf the Internet. And just how does Ars know this, I hear you ask? Well, according to the report, the folks at Ars stumbled upon some interesting data when looking through their logs when compiling their monthly browser stat report. During their search, Ars found that the site had had 346 visits from a device with a screen resolution of 2048x1536, which is said to be the resolution of the iPad 3's Retina Display. And while Ars acknowledges that this could simply be a coincidence, and that surely there must be several other devices in circulation that might have the same resolution, after investigating the matter further, Ars found that to the contrary, there are actually hardly any other devices around with exactly that resolution, with one of the few being a $5,000 NEC display used for medical purposes. The Ars team say that this prompted them to investigate further, checking out iPad user agents from Apple’s corporate IP block, where they found evidence of Apple employees surfing the Internet with iPads that seemed to be running iOS 6, among other iPads running other iOS versions. Ars says that the iPads that look to be running iOS 6 are using a newer version of WebKit. It’s doubtful that Apple will be ready to release iOS 6 with the new iPad in March, as it has still to release iOS 5.1 yet, but it’s exciting to see evidence that the next major iOS update is already in the works, and as Ars says, it’s possible Apple will even show a teaser preview of iOS 6 next Wednesday when it unveils the new iPad. It would not be surprising that a few prototypes are in actual use. Standard practice. It is also true that it is easy to spoof some of those ARS servers. The iPad 3 will be out soon, so not a big surprise. And iOS 6 is a given, but when is still a mystery.

Being a surprise is not so much the interest. Thing is Maura revealed it here, not you and it happens to be perfectly appropriate in the thick of this iPad holiday season.
It's probably not the big deal to Apple insiders to use being they deal with it as it comes together. Both problems and breakthroughs. It's like top secret stuff to Apple. I on the other hand would consider that a very cool perk of the job.

There are also browsers that let you enter your own user agent strings - like Safari - where I can browse the web as iOS v7.4 if I want.....
