Mashable reports today on new figures from mobile analytics firm Arieso that show that smartphone users “consistently consume†more data than tablet users do. And it seems that at the top of the chart of the “hungriest†data users are iPhone 5 owners, who use 50% more data than iPhone 4S users, and four times what iPhone 3G users consume. In general, mobile data use is soaring to new heights, thanks to “new devices and richer content,†in the words of Arieso.
Arieso’s figures also reveal that 40% of all data is consumed by just 1% of users.“Yet again we found that novel usage patterns, new technologies and regional idiosyncrasies are conspiring to make life increasingly difficult for mobile operators trying to meet evolving customer expectations. The ability to conduct detailed analysis such as this is critical in giving operators a rich source of intelligence to help boost network performance and enrich user experience,†according to study author and Arieso CTO, Dr. Michael Flanagan.
