When I double press the Home button on my iPad 2, a row of app icons appear at the bottom of the screen showing all the apps running in the background. Is it important to manually shut them down one by one if not using them? Does it eat up more battery juice if I leave them running?

Wow! Thanks! I am a new iPad owner and didn't know that's how you ended apps processing in the background. Guess I was so used to my android and the Task Manager. I closed all my apps running in the background (BTW it was EVERY single app on my iPad!) I wondered why my battery had been draining so fast! Hope it lasts longer now.
