Safari no longer accepts new bookmarks

I create them just as always, and I get no error message, but the newly-created bookmarks no longer show up on the list of bookmarks.

Is there a limit to the number of bookmarks Safari accepts (I have 3 or4 dozen)? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

One suggestion - when you save the bookmark, check carefully where it's being saved. If you have folders in your bookmark list, it will default to saving the next bookmark to the same folder as you saved your last bookmark in.

But when you look at your list of bookmarks, typically the search starts at the 'top level' so you don't notice that the new bookmark that you added is effectively 'hidden' in an unexpected folder that you didn't intend it really to be put it.

So, try a test. Save a page as a bookmark and, before you hit the Save button, check on the top right-hand corner of the pop up window to see which folder it's being saved in.
