Removing stubborn iPad backup from Mac Book Pro

I used to have my 12.9” 2nd-Gen iPad pro backed up my Mac Book Pro. I want to delete this backup and start fresh, but the iPad and MBPro aren’t havin’ it. I nuke and paved the Mac Book Pro; any trace of that back up should be gone.

Could it be that the iPad thinks there’s still a backup on the Mac Book Pro?

Is there a way to get both machines to let go of that old backup and let me start afresh?

Could you locate the backup in Terminal and delete it from there?

If that’s possible, it requires a level of wizardry that’s beyond me!
