Portrait to landscape?

Not had my ipadmini for long, enjoying ease of photos. However I have taken videos in portrait and now find watching them on my laptop they have thick black sides and I can't get full screen? Perhaps this is a laptop prob?thanx from a complete technophobe!

Can't help you change this, if that's what you're asking. However, photos and videos should be shot in the format that suits the subject. If it's a tree, shoot portrait. If you're shooting sports or something else with a wider format of with subjects moving sideways, shoot landscape. This doesn't help with your issue, however.
