Found this on Internet

The iPad has an interesting mute quirk, which can result in no sound coming from certain apps over your iPad speaker, even though volume is turned up and you can hear the sound with headphones.

This Soft Mute “feature” mutes app music and sounds, but not the audio from Hulu or Netflix, which makes it difficult to diagnose, especially since your headphones still work, but thankfully it is easy to fix.

Why you have no App sounds on the iPad
In order to fix this, you need to follow the instructions below

Double tap the home button
Swipe from left to right
Tap the speaker icon to the far left
It should show “Mute Off” below the play button
Listen to app sound once again

Have you checked this Julie

Re: No sound from iPad

I had the exact problem you described. I performed a reset with no success and checked all my controls, switches, etc.

I thought, my iPad thinks the headphones are still plugged in.

So I plugged them back in, successfully played music, PAUSED the music, unplugged the headphones, and voila, the iPad recognized that I had unplugged the headphones and the external speaker worked properly.

Feels like the cause of the problem is the removal of headphones while music is playing.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

I found this on an Apple support group.

I'm afraid I've tried that method and my volume does not indicate that it is muted. I even try muting and then unmuting using that method to no avail. I do not use headphones with my iPad.
