New iPad might infiltrate gaming consoles territory?

After waiting so long for the next generation iPad to come out, many people were excited to find out, after the curtain dropped, that gaming played an important part in designing the new tablet. Future iPad 3 owners should know that their devices comes with some powerful specs. The quad-core graphics chip is going to be improving app performance, and will certainly enrich the 3D gaming performance as well.

Yes, the iPad 3 seems to have been designed with geeky gamers in mind. We can only imagine the delight popping up on their faces when they will be able to play a game like Infinity Blade: Dungeons on the 2048 x 1536 breathtaking Retina display. Such is the power of the new technology that it already has cast a shadow over most high resolution TVs you can buy in today.

Namco and Epic Games both jumped on the chance to present games on the new tablet. They exhibited quite a few promising titles and are claiming exclusivity to the iPad.

With the iPhone paving the way into video game land and developers like EA trying their best to penetrate the mobile environment, they have just launched Mass Effect: Infiltrator for iPhone and iPad.

So, is the iPad going to steal away Xbox’s thunder? Well the jury is still out on that question. The iPad starts selling for $499 while the Xbox 360 costs only $199. The extra cash might be worth it, since you won’t use the iPad only for gaming. This might just be a matter to ponder.

While the iPad makes for a fun "social gaming" experience, it will never appeal to the hard core gamers. The 360 has the ability to run 6 threads at once without tasking switching. The iPad can only do 2 threads. That difference is huge when it comes to AI and object manipulation in a 3D environment. And yes, the iPad now has very good rendering capabilities, but it doesn't mean a lot if you can't handle 50 AI objects at once like a 360 can.
