When I close the cover, which then puts the iPad to sleep, it closes down the wifi connection. When I open the cover, I have to wait a few minutes till its connected again. This has only just started to happen. Does anyone know why it's started to do this and can I work around it?

It is normal behavior for the iPad to drop the wifi connection when asleep. It sounds like it is taking unusually long for it to come back up, which is the real issue. It may be related to your wifi router as well. Maybe delete the wifi connection from your iPad and re-enter all the details again.

if you have not secured your WiFi, likely you have many WiFi users leeching your connection. Each takes one of the available addresses of your router, the less free addresses the longer it takes to be logged on.

Thanks for both suggestions will try resetting everything.

My wifi is very secure, I can see who is logged on at all times.

my wife's laptop had the same issue, so try using a fixed ip on you phone, say xxx.xxx.xxx.200, then limit the dhcp server (in the router) to 'allocating' auto addresses below this, might speed things up as it will not need to test each address to see if it us free.

Are you in an area of good signal strength?

Are there any/many walls between the iPad and the wireless modem/router?

Have you tried other locations?

I am only a few feet away from the router. I am going to sons house later, will see what happens whilst I'm there.

Thanks for replying.

Good luck.

I have (in Settings/General) iPad cover lock/unlock = Off.
This saves fluffing around with using covers to turn it off.
Auto lock set to = 2 minutes.
On reawakening I get wifi fast as.

I changed my settings to mirror yours and so far I haven't dropped my wifi connection.

Thanks a lot.
