Ultrasound mosquito repellents: Zapping the myth
Knols has filmed himself using an iPhone app to generate an ultrasound signal at 15kHz. In the video, he is seen reaching with the phone into a cage of Dengue-fever-carrying mosquitoes. The mosquitoes are seen eagerly landing on his gloved hand, visibly undeterred by the ultrasound signal.
Well, the title piqued my interest - tomorrow leaving for a 4-day trip to the NC mountains in the far southwest portion of the state (near the TN border) - will be doing some 'gentle' hiking (if the rain holds off) - usually use non-smelly bug spray, BUT a potential app -
Now, we're not going to carry our iPads on these hikes but am curious about the comments from others - I understand the principle, however, not sure if it really works -
Have a great trip and happy hiking giradman. Sounds like the idyllic getaway!
Andrew
Hi Andrew - thanks - our 43rd wedding anniversary; staying at the Snow Bird Lodge (our 2nd visit there - first 2011) - below a couple of pics from around the lodge on our first visit; room decks overlook these mountains (part of the Nantahala National Forest) and have a 'private' hot tub; plus, great food at their restaurant - taking extra books & some DVDs (along w/ our iPads; Wi-Fi in the lodge) in case the rains prevent our outdoor activities. I would have been interested in that type of app too. My family is heading out next Saturday for 2 weeks of camping.
I believe the mosquito app is on the same lines as my scratch and sniff app.
I believe the mosquito app is on the same lines as my scratch and sniff app. I would like to know how many nose prints were left on iPad screens after I posted this:
