I'm not sure that I completely understand your issue? I assume that you are in either the 'Mail' or 'Facebook' app on the iPad - my first suggestion is the open the multitask bar @ the bottom of the home screen, i.e. double-tap the home button (or use multi-fingering gesturing and swipe up) - then find the app in question; press & hold until all jiggle, then tap the 'minus sign' which will force close the app; return to the home screen and try again.
If the above does now solve your issue, then 'Restart' and if not effective 'Reset' the iPad - directions HERE, if unfamiliar w/ the procedures - good luck!
