Good day iPF

Am I supposed to do the whole, "Hi I'm this old and come from that place" thing? Meh. I'm in the UK if that makes a difference specification wise or something.

My brother bought me an iPad 2 and the only problem I've really encountered so far (other than fingerprints!) is that I can't seem to transfer files via Bluetooth from my eMac and iBook. Both recognise the iPad but refuse to connect.

Anyway... Cheerio, toodle-pip and such.

Welcome to the forums.

One of the things you will need to get your head around is the sanboxed environment that is IOS on the iPad. The iPad doesn't provide you an open file system which you can simply connect to and drop file on like you might expect. That's typically why you can't just make a bluetooth pairing and start swapping files between devices.

The primary way to get content on and off the device is of course iTunes. Most folks don't like that. There are other good apps out there like goodreader which is a step towards a file "management" tool without breaking Apples sandbox rules. Other cloud based tools are also useful, such as DropBox.

The best way to learn about the limitations is to explore the device, so first off, be assured nothing is wrong, then with that in mind, have a play around, but prepare for some initial disappointment if you are expecting a completely open system :(

If Apples sandbox is not for you, head over to the Hacking Section and read up on jailbreaking. The primary thing this does is give you root access to the device and completely opens the file system :)
