Apple to launch cheaper MacBook Air in Q2 2018.JPG

MacRumors reports today on a new research report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who says that Apple will be launching a “more affordable MacBook Air” in Q2 this year, which means anytime between April and June, and possible at Apple’s WWDC in June. With the launch of this cheaper MacBook Air, Kuo predicts that total shipments of MacBooks will increase 10-15% year on year, increasing to 16 million units up from 15.5 million units last year. This would be in contrast to a 0-5% year on year decline for the notebook industry.

Kuo does not elaborate any further on the specs of the new MacBook Air, but it’s certainly fair to say that Apple’s ever-popular laptop is long overdue an update, especially as far as the display is concerned. The current 13-inch MacBook Air only has a 1440 x 900 non-Retina display. Another possibility for the new models could be a smaller form factor. Could the recently discontinued 11-inch MacBook Air be on the way back? Hopefully we’ll be getting more information on this very soon.
