i am on a state of panic right now.
I have a jailbroken iPad 2 and i tried to update the OS from 5.1 to the latest. the update stopped and the recovery mode screen appeared. when i connected the device to iTunes, it said that it should be restored. when i clicked the restore button, it had an error that says "The iPad software update server could not be contacted". i have a good internet connection.
how do i get it out of recovery mode and proceed with the update?
thanks in advance.

Since you are jailbroken, you have probably used something like TinyUmbrella and left your hosts file pointing to Cydia instead of Apple. Follow our guide here in FULL and it will resolve your problems (Step 2 is important for you) - http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hack...lsafe-method-restore-current-version-ios.html

Good luck.

And since your query is specific to being jailbroken, I'll move your thread to the Hacking Section.

what did you do to bring it back to normal again?... what did you use to fix it?

iOS 7 and iTunes 11.1 are a bit of a hassle. Put the device into DFU mode, and try restoring. See if you get any errors.

If you're still not allowed to restore your device, uninstall iTunes 11.1, and remove any locally stored cache associated with it. Then install iTunes 11.0.5 (below) and retry.

Mac OSX: https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iT...unes11.0.5.dmg

Windows 32-bits: https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iT...TunesSetup.exe

Windows 64-bits: https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/iT...nes64Setup.exe
