Is there an app that allows me to select the icon to put the iPad into sleep mode?

As subject, just as a simple alternative to pressing the on/off/sleep switch on the edge of the iPad.

Yes, there is - but only if you're jail broken. You can use icons, toggles and even,gestures to turn off the iPad.

But, there is no alternative on a stock iPad. Sorry.

Assisstive touch you can lock/put the iPad to sleep its in settings.

Settings/Accessibility/Assistive Touch does give a number of useful options. It puts a moveable icon on your screen no matter where you are.

Whatever you do, don't touch 'Triple Click'! Did that and had "fun" getting back to normal actions.
