If this is an ipad2 you are speaking of, don't hesitate, and take dat faulty device back and demand a swap or replacement. U are perfectly entitled to it as it hasn't even been two weeks yet for return policy. Hurry though cuz if u wait too long, then u would have to go thru warranty n which they will give u a refurbished one. I'd say f$&@ that, n go get u another new one Today. No need to worry or try to find workarounds for it. This device is brand new and should operate so. Powering off and on to exit apps is ridiculous. Good luck n post back what they did ;-)

apple had me restore to factory settings and it started working again. A few hours later I experienced the same problem. They told me to bring it into the store and they would try to fix it. If it can't be fixed I will have to order another one and wait weeks for it to come in since all stores are sold out. In the meantime I can still use the defected one.

They won't try to fix it. They'll replace it.

Take it to an Apple store, they likely have replacements in the back for you.

Not in store, they dont display ones bookmarked for replacement under warranty.

Call them and other stores. I got a replacement same day at a sold out store.

I spoke to someone from the store where I bought it from. They said that they would have to order another one for me and I will switch out my old one when the new one arrives. I will call other stores.
