Ipad2 or android tab?

I currently have an android cell phone and I love it. I have had a macbook before and I loved it. I don't know if i'll like the Ipad2 setup. I just want the pros and cons of the Ipad as everyone here sees them.

Ipad all the way. The support is there. Android tablets are nice, but have nowhere near the amount of applications the ipad has. battery life is also significantly better on the ipad in my experience. You also have a better operating system that is always updated (unless your device is older )

I have had almost every android tablet to come out and they have all sucked, imo.

I don't totally disagree but there are a few things I should add...there is just as much or MORE support for Android devices...all the main tablets have their own message boards as well as the manufacturers website.

Applications it depends on what you need...for me I needed educational and guitar apps so I added the iPad to my list of current tablets...Acer Iconia A500, Viewsonic gTablet, Droid Bionic, Original Droid....however Android market has grown tremendously.

Better OS? That is a matter of opinion...especially if you are into rooting/jail breaking...but rooting Android opens up the system FAR greater than iOS. Plus the new Ice Cream Sandwich is an amazing OS...fast and smooth. Plus I hear they will be releasing Jelly Bean (Android 5.0) by summer.

You are correct with battery life...iPad wins hands down.

Basically what you need to do is make a list of your needs before deciding. Each format has its strengths & weaknesses...knowing what you will be using your tablet for will help you decide which format is best for you

as a small one man band, for me stability is king, i don't care for lock ups, or to jailbreaking in a forlorn hope to overcome what Apple already have, , or get an android and mess about with routing for the same reaon (been there done that on multiple PCs).

i like the instant start up, i've not yet seen an Android do this (but then i have not seen all android tablets :). ). those that might compete tend to be priced near or more the cost of an iPad. every Android and every Android OS release to date has claimed falsely to be the Ipad/iphone killer, but that as yet has been only a spoof, so why i ask ever buy a pretender to the throne on such a gamble?

many app's are suitable for phone and iPads, you buy an accounts app, you automatically get both versions for the same money.

Apple has it's own brand stores and in many world wide locations. all with well trained dedicated Apple tech's on hand, now i might be wrong but i don't know of any Android maker that can match anywhere near that kind of offer if one 2 one support - thats if ever you will need it.

I want to use it for college: textbooks and note taking and such. I also want to know if it has a sd card slot or can it be be hooked up to a keyboard.

Sd card slot is a no go unless you use the camera connection kit. Keyboard is a yes if its a bluetooth keyboard. Sd card slot is not needed in ipad imo

No SD slot but there is a Camera Connection Kit that accepts SD cards. There are also memory solutions that use the 30-pin connector.

Does it have to be an apple keyboard or just bluetooth?

There are others, which apparently work fine. Some are a combined keyboard and case. I prefer the Apple keyboard because it is bigger, and easy to type on.

Yea but it ONLY transfers photos or videos from your camera unless you jailbreak. This is where Apple fails miserably. Why would you lock down any ability to transfer files that would be NEEDED...like Word/Excel files? There are work-arounds but as mentioned before " i don't care for rooting in a forlorn hope to overcome what Android already have".

Based on what you said your needs were, BOTH formats would work for you. Both have good note taking apps (hand written AND text) and both have various book options. I suggest you go to a local Best Buy or wherever near you & test out the various tablets to see what "feels" right to you.

I think Best Buy is on it's way out - what ever you buy use a credit card, that way you have some protection of your cash..

In your case i think you need to balance needs for expansion against battery time. My wife has a cheap £65 Android, recent plane trip it lasted a respectable 3 films, ipad2 lasted 6 films and 4 books.

Androids will beat iPads on additional expansion nothing but nothing beats iPads for battery life - rooted, jail broken or otherwise ;)
