iPad2 connection to Vodafone MiFi

Can some technical genius please advise why my Vodafone MiFi2352 unit, purchased and used in Italy connects perfectly well (every time) to my work laptop yet my iPad2 pignb cks nnup the mobile hotspot address but does not hold the connection. I have no issues with the iPad in connecting to WiFi sites at cafes, free locations etc, just the MiFi.

Local Vodafone team have been unable to provide an answer.
