ipad stuck on

The search logo is showing [circular rotation] but nothing is working, it will not turn of, and nothing I can do to change this.
Is there any other way to switch it off apart from letting it run the battery down. Reset Button ? Perhaps.

Yes there is a reset, so try this
Reset: Hold the power off button and the home button simultaneously, keep holding them in and you will see the power off slide appear and disappear, wait until you see the Apple logo appear before releasing the buttons. It will take a little longer for your iPad to start. This is a reset. Hope it works, let us know.

Tried reset, rotation still stuck. Any ideas?

We need more info here, is your screen on? Are you in an app? iPad 1 or 2 Jailbroken? What happened?
