Hi, i have a question about my iPad. While taking my Smart Cover off to clean my device, something came up and i momentarily had to place my iPad caseless onto a table. Unfortunately, my mother being the neat freak she is tried to move it but slid it across the table and it received some scratches on the ever-so-fragile aluminum back. I was devasted and she was very sorry, but the scratches are very shallow and barely catch the fingernail. I've attached a picture for everyone for reference. I was wondering if anything could cover/ buff out these scratches? I searched online but none of the other forums helped.

Any tips or opinions are greatly appreciated, thank you.

I'm sorry, i meant smart case, I would never buy one of those flimsy things that don't even protect the back. I am still looking for any suggestions to remove the scratches from the iPad, I cannot simply cover them up and forget about them.
P.S. Sorry about the duplicate post, I'm just a noob.

You are going to be very hard pushed to get rid of scratches. Any attempt to buff them out is likely to result in even more damage.

Get a skin to cover that up and hope you can leave it on when you sell it.

You may try a little car wax, rubbing it it the same direction of the scratch, let dry. Lightly buff the wax. Repeat if necessary. This sometimes works on my car. I hope it helps. Nothing lost if it doesn't, excepts a shinny back cover that will resist water and additional scratches.

I was going to recommend he take it to a car detailer. But your idea is more economical.

Hi twister,

Kevin is correct, an auto compound or auto polish is meant to produce a high gloss, and you may find trying to repair it will put a different (shinier) finish on the back. Of course you could compound the entire back to make that finish uniform, and have a one-of-a-kind custom iPad. People will be asking you where you got it!

There are also some auto finishing products on the market which are designed to fill fine scratches, and reflect the light so you can not see them, or at least they are less noticeable.

You could also bring it to the closest Apple store and see if they have any suggestions or tricks. They must scratch a case or two and have to repair them. Maybe the cost for a new back is not as much as you might think.

I vote for the SlickWrap. Much easier than polish and they look great. Had you had one on you could have just replaced it instead of getting a new back.

If that happened to mine, I think I would cry. Mine is my little baby.....

I don't think there is anything you can do about it, I think you'll have to keep to covered.

In this particular case, masking seems to be the compromise. The owner isn't constantly reminded of the damage and the dressing looks good.

Here's a snap of the iFrogz, snap on composite backing for the iPad. It looks good and offers a high level of scratch protection.

I purchased it 5 minutes after buying my iPad.
