Is there an icon for iPad Forum to put on my home screen?

The forum has a free app on the App Store called Discussion Forum for iPad Users. If you download it, you will have an icon on your home screen and be able to access this forum through it.

There are other forum reader apps at the App Store, also. Alternatively, you could always set a Safari bookmark onto your home screen so that you have an icon that will lead you right to the web page (on Safari).

Many ways to keep a convenient way back to here... Hope one of these ways suits you needs.

She could also have been referring to Forum Runner, which is the app the one the IPF app is based on
