iPad 4 sync stuck on backup

Hey there,

my iPad's been stuck syncing for backup for hours now. iTunes started it automatically. The progress-bar is stuck on "Syncing xxxxx's iPad (Step 2 of 6)" on

iTunes 11.0.2.26
iPad is on iOS 6.0.1.

I know the iOS is outdated but I can't update it before I've backed up. Anyone with similar issues and a resolution?

Hello and welcome to the forum. It's good to "see" you and I hope you enjoy your visits.

In iTunes, at the top where you see that back-up message, you should see a small circle with an 'X" in it. Click on the X to stop the backup. You may have to do it a few times to fully stop that process...

Keep your iPad connected to iTunes. Then, my suggestion is to go to your iTunes' Edit menu and navigate to Preferences. Once in the Preferences window (it'll be a pop-up), locate the tab for "Devices" and click on it. find all the Device Backups for your iPad and delete them (cause that long wait for the backup probably corrupted some or all).

Then, right click on the iPad line (in the left column of iTunes) and select "Back Up." it should then work and iTunes will make a backup.

After that, you can upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 and use the backup to restore your iPad.
