iTunes stuck on "Syncing XXXXXXX's iPad (step 2 of 6) - Backing Up

This is a brand new iPad.
When I try to add music to it, it gets stuck on the backing up. Yesterday it was like that for eight hours and the bar did not move. Next to the bar there's a small button with a sort of arrow over a dot. There is no X button to cancel. There are no backups on my PC.

iTunes version 11.0.4.4
IOS 6.1.3

Help please!

Also if I go to File>Devices, all options are grayed out...

If you've configured everything according to The OB's helpful link, and the problem still exists, disconnect your iPad from the pc, restart both - Apple device and computer - and try again.

I found a bit more in some old notes re syncing of photos from/to computer and iPad.
These screens may help re music as the principle is the same.(click on music instead)

I actually had done it as OB's link instructs (via USB). However, I have not tried to restart the iPad. I'll try that once I get home, thanks!

I did everything sugested; nothing worked. I tried to cancel the EDITED backup several times, and couldn't. I deleted the backup from my computer. Restarted the computer and the iPad. Nothing. Same error. BUT I have a workaround (in case anybody is having a similar issue). Right now I'm using an older computer that I have with iTunes 10.7. It works like a charm. I'm able to cancel the backup (I do NOT want to backup anything. Every important document on my iPad is already backed up online and on my computer. Why double it?) and simply drag and drop music. Simple. Effective. I don't know if I was doing something wrong on iTunes 11, but I followed all instructions provided and it still got stuck on the same step (Syncing XXXXXXX's iPad (step 2 of 6) - Backing Up) So it's not fixed, but I got a workaround. Anyway why is it (apparently, or up to what I've been able to notice) mandatory to create a backup?
