Hello fellow Aussies :)

I'm going to be upgrading my 3GS to a 4S in the next month or so and thought "hey, at the same time, I should see what deal I can get on an iPad"

I haven't been around all the shops just yet, but I did go past a JB today and stopped in to chat. Apparently they can't and won't offer anything on an iPad or iPhone, even if I bought them both right then, right there (plus, it's my birthday lol, you'd think I could get something!).

Now I know Apple controls prices quite rigidly. I'm not expecting anything much. But *no* leeway or flexibility at all when wanting to purchase TWO devices... I feel a bit 'ripped off' even though I didn't buy anything.

Has anyone had any luck with getting two devices with at least *some* kind of discount?

(What originally spurred this on was a friend telling me that their friend got a free iPad with their new contract on Optus.)

If you can get $10 off consider yourself lucky and let us know.

The "free" iPad with Optus is no such thing. The cost is buried in the contract payments.

I agree with that one. .... There is no such thing as a free lunch. Dealer margins are slim hence why no discounts.

Oh I'm fairly sure there would have been some unpleasant contract conditions for the 'free' iPad. I just figured I would make an attempt since it was time to upgrade. But everyones comments are all in line with my realistic expectations! I'm still going to try... I mean I ask, they say no, I move on... I realise Apple controls prices & margins aren't high for retailers.

Big W are generally up to $50 cheaper across all models of iPad.
Yeah they seem consistently cheapest. Still saving the upfront cash though :(

I did email WOW earlier and say JB didn't want to help, just to see what they offer!

The site is hong kong based it is an off shore based Internet web purchase site. Before you buy verify with Australian manufactures regard warranties as most are void. This means if something requires warranty service it is returned to china or some other Asian country...... Be warned.

Apple prices in Australia

It does not matter if you buy 1 or 5 price is the same. Dealer margins are 5% so donot expect any deals unless the retailer is having a sale and the discount price is at cost. That is the way it is and has been for many many years. My background is 25 years as a specialist Apple reseller in Qld. I currently am employed by a major electrical retailer. You can try negotiating a better price for cash maybe $10 max but not much more and that would be high. You are better off looking for a deal on accessories. The prices Apple advertise are already so called "street prices" The bottom line is iPads are a fast selling item and nobody needs to discount. iPods for example in most retailers are sold at cost or below cost... Why they are pull items. Ie get you into the stores..... Forget Optus deal that is a buried promotion ie you pay in the contract....

iPhone's are only available for out right purchase through Apple stores all others are with contracts only.

I have reopened this thread after removing any discussions regarding grey marketing. Please read the following before posting. Thank you.

Discussions about companies whom grey market products is not allowed. This includes reference by name to those companies. This also applies to companies selling products whom are not authorized Apple resellers

If anyone else is waiting for a sale...go have a look at WOW's website :)

$80 off the model I want :)

I think I'm going shopping tomorrow morning!

Thank you for sharing that Nessva. I hope you get the one you want. Good luck!!

Sitting around waiting for it to be late enough to leave ... I just hope they have stock!

And of course I get called in to work, so just enough time to buy it before work. I won't get to play with it until like 7pm tonight! I think this day will go slowly haha :)
