IPad 2 booting up then shutting off

My iPad booted off about 4% battery and now when I try to boot it up it boots as normal until the lock screen appears then it shuts off again. When I plug the charger in the iPad automatically boots and repeats the process described.
Any ideas guys?

Let it charge for an hour or two, then try restarting it. If it's still having problems at that point, try reset.


Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart. takes a bit longer than a restart.
