Ipad 2 av cable

Hi everyone i have got a ipad 2
I bought a av cable for it today i connected it to the tv ...only options that are working are ...youtube ..my videos ...my pictures. I cant get live tv to work the sound works but no picture. I cant get the ipad display to work on the tv either. Do i need to download an app or do i need a different lead please someone help

Not 100 percent sure but I believe the iPad 2 will work with a TV only if connect via HDMI cable or via AirPlay to an AirPlay capable TV or through Apple TV connected via HDMI cable.

As far as I know it should be a HDMI adapter
