I'm glad you managed to find another copy of your data. Archiving a backup prevents it from being overwritten.

Holy cow! Why is this not documented? Who first thought of right-clicking on an archive just to see what happens? For that matter, who first discovered how to find this arcane, deeply-buried backup dialog where no normal person would think to look? I hate Easter egg hunt navigation. If only Jony Ive would stick to hardware and leave UI to professionals.

Well I've cut my losses now, as the older 32bit phones won't be upgradeable with iOS11, and all future apps must then be 64bit compatible, I've gone ahead and ordered a new iPhone 5SE, and will say goodbye to the 5C.
That should be pretty future proof for a while!

Wow. It is said that some older models are only upgradable to a certain point. I don't have a iphone but this could be whats happening.
