Inboxes emptied while using IPAD 1

Looking for an answer on what happened & why and how to retrieve those lost emails. I was in the process of deleting 3 emails from a Yahoo inbox this morning. Again, I selected 3 specific emails from one specific Yahoo account for deletion. Something happened during the deletion process (the screen went squirrely doing its thing) and then the content of my entire inboxes (from two separate Yahoo accounts) vanished and the content of my work inbox from a separate/third account (different server) partially vanished simultaneously. There were over 300 emails that spanned a decade. Basically, all three (3) inboxes from three (3) different accounts that were accessed through my IPAD vanished at the same time. I checked the trash and spam folders and they no messages were moved. The inboxes just got wiped out. Any clues on how to remedy this?

I am on the IPAD 1 and have not upgraded to the new operating system.
