I'm watching the eclipse via NASA app. Did you see a total eclipse, or a partial one?

Only a partial. I'm about 100 miles north of the path of totality, at about 97% coverage. It never got dark, just sort of early evening, with strange shadows.

The only total solar eclipse I saw live was in 1979. During totality we could see red sunset colours all around the horizon and the darkness was the equivalent of late twilight, just before full dark.

When we had a partial solar eclipse two years ago, I waited for these shadows to appear, so that I could show them to our students, but I didn't see any.

The only total solar eclipse I saw live was in 1979. During totality we could see red sunset colours all around the horizon and the darkness was the equivalent of late twilight, just before full dark.

We had a total solar eclipse in August 1999. It was amazing! We could see the shadow of the Moon approaching. It was getting darker, the temperature dropped, birds stopped singing, and I was bitten by a few mosquitos.
I took my mother and my children to a place outside my village, so that we could watch the eclipse, observe some of it's effects, and take pictures. I saw the shadows you've both photographed today back then.

Well, if we would have stayed in Highlands, NC on our recent mountain trip, the eclipse was going to be total (see map & path below in North Carolina) - the town was expecting thousands of visitors today, which will be overwhelming - cannot imagine the traffic on those 2-lane tortuous roads. BUT, in Winston-Salem, we are getting about 94% coverage which just ended. Dave

I didn't take any photos, but I did observe one animal behavior effect I hadn't seen noted elsewhere: as totality approached, all the small children exhausted their attention spans and started chasing each other around in circles.

I live about 10 miles (16 km) inside the path of totality, which lasted just over 2 minutes. This was the first time I've ever seen the corona. It was as cool as I'd hoped.
