Hey Lanny - looks like a compound calcaneal fracture - if that is your foot, then I assume you had a fall? I spent 2 years as one of 4 radiologists at Womack Army Hospital (Ft. Bragg, NC - home of the 82nd Airborne) - cannot even recall 'how many' foot fractures we saw in those paratroopers - also called 'Lover's Leap' or 'Don Juan' fracture -

Not compound, Dave, and fortunately not displaced. No surgery, no cast, no foot pain after the second day. However, absolutely no weight bearing is permitted, even with Das Boot (that's a pun, Johanna), which makes everyday life maddeningly complicated, limited, risky, and hard on the hands (because crutches). There's also a cracked 3rd MT, but's that's trivial, considering. Summer plans? Buh-bye.
Don Juan, eh? Hmph. While hiking, I hopped off a 1-meter boulder onto flat ground, landing evenly on both feet with knees bent. One foot didn't mind, one did. I don't understand, such stunts worked fine when I was only 60.
Something else I don't understand: why five of my alleged friends LIKED THE X-RAY!! That's cold, guys, realiy cold.

I liked the fact that you were showing the picture to "Dr Dave" . I hadn't recognised it as a foot, let alone yours! You certainly have my every sympathy. Hey Lanny - well, hard to tell the number of 'fragments' from one view (3 different projections are the minimum number at least from my early days as a radiologist) - BUT, glad that the fracture was a simple one not needing a bunch of orthopedic pins - and sorry about the 'boot therapy' - hope that you heel soon and well - GOOD LUCK! Yeh - 'Don Juan' - remember all of those swashbuckling movies of yore, especially w/ Errol Flynn - the guy must have had springs for heels!
