Hello Jenni - not sure 'where' you live? But in my 'neck of the woods', i.e. Forsyth County, Piedmont North Carolina, black bears are common in the mountains and in the east - the center of the state has not been their territory; HOWEVER, we are now getting black bear sitings several times a year, especially in the western part of the county (one was killed by police a few years ago because of its potential danger) - the map below shows the bear's territorial expansion from 1971 to 2010 in North Carolina - a current map would show even further extension. I live in Asheville, NC. We see these bears all over the place. It's great seeing them but I worry about people and the bears alike with them roaming around like they do. Ty for the info!
