Went for a walk today to test the new portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus. Hold in mind that except for my dog, I'm not taking picutures of people or people-like objects (Apple's recommende use of portrait mode), so when I say I threw out most of them, it's to be expected. I'm a little picky about details, and the subjects I chose were not what portrait mode was designed for.

But, here are a few that I liked well enough to keep.

TP - some great pics w/ that new iPhone - my son (the IT guy) and wife have convinced me to rid myself of my old 'dumb' phone and get an iPhone 7, so may be a purchase in the near future - Dave :)

Keep in mind I'm using the iPhone 7 Plus, the big one. The smaller 7 does not have the second 2x camera and portrait mode. Still, it takes great pictures.

Just realized that every picture in my second post was taken using the 2x lens. Not surprising when I think about it. I've always prefered zoom lenses over wide angle, and detail shots over landscapes. I just never had the option with the iPhone before. Still, sort of unexpected. I did use both lenses. It was only in the editing that most of the 1x pictures got deleted.

Since I'm posting again, two more shots. One more from the 2x lense, and pretty much the only surviving 1x shot. I really don't do landscapes well, so not many of them make it past the editing stage.

BTW, the red leaf looked awful when I used portrait mode on it; a blurry edged red shape surrounded by a sea brown gunk. I though about keeping it to show how portrait can go amuck, but decided there were already enough bad examples in life. :)
