2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Course - Won by Jimmy Walker!

At the moment, I'm watching the last round of the 2016 PGA Championship (the last Major Tournament of the year) on my DVR - the event was held in Springfield, New Jersey at the famous Baltusrol Golf Club, established in 1895 and host of 15 U.S. Open/Amateur & 2 PGA Championships - the course has some wonderful personal memories - first, located close to Susan's teenage home in Short Hills, New Jersey (see satellite image) and a close drive; second, in 1980 my father-in-law and I attended the U.S. Open there, won by Jack Nicklaus.

Below some more pics from the web of the golf course and club house. The 2016 Championship was won by the 37 y/o American Jimmy Walker, a journeyman golfer who played in 187 events before winning his first tournament (see quote below from link) - last pic of this year's winner w/ the large Wanamaker Trophy (weighs about 25 pounds) - for this victory, Walker won $1,800,000 - not bad! Dave :)

James William Walker (born January 16, 1979) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. After playing in 187 events without a win on the PGA Tour, Walker won three times in the first eight events of the 2014season. He is a six-time winner on the PGA Tour, and in 2016 won his first major title at the PGA Championship.

Astrophotographer - Jimmy Walker

New to me from watching the end of the PGA Championship - Jimmy Walker is a serious astrophotographer - just a few images below from his Website - scroll down to the space images and click on one - only 4 shown below, but all are beautiful - quite a hobby! Dave :)

He's certainly got a wonderful hobby for the off-season.

Well, he seems to also sell these images as prints of various sizes, so a second income (have no idea how much he makes from this effort?) - but some additional pics of his below of mainly galaxies (I've uploaded these @ 1600 pixel width, so click to enlarge - the text will be more readable) - the last image shows the 'BUY' icon - if I had any wall space left in our house, I'd purchase a few! Dave :)

One of the most fascinating photos is the last one. It's called the Whirlpool Galaxy or M51. It's actually two galaxies, known as M51(a) and M51(b).These two galaxies are interacting with each other, affecting the structure of both galaxies, leading to areas of enhanced star formation. Hi Scifan.. - I know that Galaxy and indeed is fascinating and is estimated to be 20+ million light years from us, meaning that we are seeing this picture 20 million years ago - mankind on Earth evolved over a period of 'about' 4 million years (2 million for Homo Erectus), SO what does the current appearance look like and what life has evolved on the likely thousands (probably many times more) of planets in those galaxies - who knows?

BUT, that pic is just beautiful and I ordered an 8x10 inch print on 'metallic' paper - about $50 - plan to frame myself (circled is what I bought). The prices are impressive for larger prints and especially for a 'wall art' print; the glicée is particularly costly (I own a number of prints w/ this technique - quite expensive ink jet printer method) - Dave :)

Just left Facebook for the day - a colleague's wife posted some of his artwork which is now available as prints (of various sizes, framed or not) and a variety of other items - he & I were part of the abdominal radiology section at the Wake Forest Medical Center for many years - he was an undergrad art major and does paintings (oils & acrylics), so the items below are prints of his paintings. Susan & I own none of this work but we've seen much at their house over the years - I have absolutely NO financial incentive here, but would be glad to PM the website were his work is available, actually along w/ that of hundreds of other artists, if anyone is interested. Dave :)
