That looks very European, like it could be in Prague or Budapest.

Regina, that would be Saskatchewan?

I've been to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador, Quebec, Ontario and Yukon, but not to Saskatchewan yet.

The lagoon is 2 miles wide and rather shallow (except for the dredged channel) and we don't get them often, and when we do, they rarely go ashore. The power lines in the picture come from a nuke plant on the barrier island. Fortunately, no harm was done.

When mother nature throws a fit, it's exciting and sometimes frightening. I used to have a 27' sailboat. I'd hate to see one of these close to me while sailing.

The hull speed was 6 knots, and the inlet to get back home has been clocked at 9 knots. We'd have to plan according to the tides, and if we were 'outside' when the tide was rushing out, and a storm came, we'd just have to ride it out. -- and in the summer, it's the rainy season, and thunderstorms can crop up in a hurry.

Yes, it's Regina, Saskatchewan. The oldest building in Regina is less than 10 years older than the Anglican cathedral. The only Canadian province I haven't yet visited is Prince Edward Island.

I almost got to PEI on my second trip to the Canadian Maritimes, but we got into some great whale watching in Newfoundland and ran out of time. Had to get back to work.

I've been 49 US States, so I guess we both have some traveling to do in order to complete our own countries ;)

The only US State I haven't gotten to yet is Hawaii. It's definitely on my list.

I'm a lifelong sax player while visiting the badlands and surrounding area, I ran across this poster with an advertisement to go to "America's Shrine To Music Museum" in Vermillion SD (It's now called the National Music Museum). It's on the campus of the University Of South Dakota http://www.usd.edu/smm/ We spent an entire day there Finding this poster led us to a treasure we wouldn't have wanted to miss.

If you ever get near Vermillion SD, consider paying it a visit.

I hope the link to the museum is OK. It's a national museum and I definitely don't have any financial ties to it except I made a donation. If not, please let me know.

Have you been up the inside passage all the way from Victoria B.C. to Alaska? If I can find any of my old photos I'll post them.

BTW, I was in Hawaii for Halloween in 1984.

Susan & I have been to Canada many times but not all of the provinces - the ones we have visited include Nova Scotia (Celtic Lodge on Cape Breton Island for a couple of nights, shown below), PEI (had to go - fan of Anne of Green Gables), Quebec, Ontario (the latter two many times), New Brunswick, Alberta, & BC (several times) - more pics below of the Banff & Lake Louise area - all my own; a couple of years ago when I did a MAJOR scanning project of my travel slides (used to just take 35 mm slides on trips), I discarded a TON of pics, so sadly I don't have much to show - :(

We also did an 2-week Alaska trip that included one week on land - we got above the Arctic Circle, i.e. Kotzebue, Alaska; then a second week on a cruise ship that took the course shown on the map, i.e. from Seward to Vancouver. A few years ago, I did not know that I'd be posting on old trips, so will have to steal some from the web, as needed - :) Dave

No, we flew to Anchorage and rented a motor home. Drove it around for a month, stopping in RV parks every few days to dump the tanks and take on water. Otherwise camped in secluded wild spots and woke up to moose and other wildlife out the window. In Denali, we saw a grizzly bear nurse her pups, a white wolf, and lots of smaller mammals. We saw a black bear on the side of the road while driving, and lots of spectacular scenery.

We took a side flight to Point Barrow (can't drive there), the northern most point on the continent, and watched the sun go around in a 360, never setting. We also took a boat trip down the Kenai Peninsula for whale and sea bird observation. It was delightful, good weather, 4 different kinds of whales, and more birds than we can identify, even with a bird book!

We worked as entertainers on Cruise Ships in the Caribbean and Bermuda for over 3 years, so we aren't in a hurry to take a cruise. We're saving that for when our bodies aren't as strong as they are now. Too much ship time, not enough port time, and mostly tourist ports. We like the tourist spots, but also like to get away to secluded ones as well.

Here's a picture of us a passenger took while performing on the MS Horizon about 10 years ago

In Alaska I've been to Ketchikan, Skagway, and Glacier Bay. This was with the navy, not on a cruise ship. In Skagway I climbed the trail to Upper Dewey Lake, 4,000 feet above Skagway. Here's the view. At the far left of the picture, about halfway up, you can make out my ship at the dock. My ship was H.M.C.S. Yukon. Yukon ended it's days by being sunk as an artificial reef off San Diego. The dock we were tied up to and the warehouse and railroad tracks next to it were the first container shipping port to service the first purpose built container ship, the Clifford J. Rodgers, which sailed between North Vancouver, Brithish Columbia and the port of Skagway, Alaska. It was used to ship ore from a mine in the Yukon and other cargo destined for the Yukon. The ship was owned by the White Pass and Yukon Railroad.

Hi Scifan.. - that is a dramatic picture - our cruise ship went into Glacier Bay and the captain sent out a boat to pick up some ice from the glacier - many of us on the ship had a taste (and we're still alive!) - ;)

In Juneau, we took a helicopter ride to the Ice Field and landed to walk around (I no longer have slides but the two below from the web show the Juneau glacier and also a helicopter landed - same size as the one we took) - we also went to a great native American (probably Canadian too) arts/crafts store - bought a 3 ft. totem pole carved from half a log that sits behind my den chair (last pic below which is mine) - Dave :)

I would have liked the chance to take the helicopter ride to the glacier. It must have been an amazing experience.

Yep - if you get a chance, highly recommended (another pic added below pretty much showing the approach to the Juneau ice field) - my wife was given the front seat next to the pilot (and 3 of us sat in back) - he went to other beautiful sites including hovering in front of a gorgeous waterfall nearby - the only other helicopter ride that we've taken was over the Grand Canyon - the breath-taking experience there was being low to the ground then flying over the edge of the canyon w/ a drop of a mile - WOW - kind of scary - Dave :)

Ah, thanks. Something to look forward to.

We take a vacation once a year, usually in the fall (it's the slow season for entertainers in Florida) and there are so many places to see.

Scifan, did you get much time in port? I remember when the navy guys used to come to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. They would only stay a few days, but when they did, it was a non-stop party at the beach lounges where we entertained.

When I get older, I'll have to do the inside passage. But while I can, we're going to climb to the top of places like this:

Teotihuacan near Mexico City. We figured out the public transportation with the help of dictionaries (this was before smart phones) and got there and back with our limited Spanish.

I really like Mexico.

On the Alaska trip, we were in Skagway for 3 days. On the Hawaii trip we were in Pearl Harbor for a couple of weeks. I've been to Hawaii twice and have never seen the inside of the airport. I don't know how interested in military aviation you are but of our way into Pearl Harbor we saw 3 SR71's at Hickam Field. This was in 1984.
