I have been known to purchase a moderate amount of electronic equipment, usually without comment, the iPad was commented on "You bought one of those too?" in a not very friendly tone. This may help when I tell her we NEED a 3G model.

The best way to tell her you bought one is to bring her her own also.

But maybe she isn't very tech oriented. My husband isn't, although I had him play with mine and he likes it but he doesn't want one for himself.

When I pull myself off the ground and the divorce lawyer got done with me, the iPad would be the only thing I had left.

My wife has a 14" iBook that will not last forever. It is our only computer that cannot run Snow Leopard. My thinking is that after using the iPad for a while, I may replace her iBook with an iPad. If she does not like it, we'll go to a MacBook Pro.
