How to find uploaded iBooks on ipad

Have downloaded two iBooks to try out but can't locate the files to view them. Please advise!

They should appear automatically on your bookshelf in the iBook app.

Few Questions:
1. Through what Application you performed the download ?
2. was it directly from the iPAD or through the PC like with iTunes ?
3. was it a PDF or ePUB kind of book ?
