How does the IPad choose between wifi and 3g

With both turned on does the IPad default to wifi when it can find a network to connect to?

Yes, a wifi connection will be used before 3G.

When no data is being used, the icon in the upper left will show you which it is using. 3G for AT&T & the dot with two curved lines for WiFi.

It will always remain connected to 3G if its available just in case there is no wifi the 3g can kick in, but it will use WiFi when ever its available.

That is unless you turn wifi off like I do.
